MU scientists collaborate in Vietnam

MU researcher joins international group to fight malnutrition in Africa

Bill Folk, professor of biochemistry and senior associate dean for research in the MU School of Medicine.

Each day, hundreds of millions of people suffer with disease, blindness and other problems associated with malnutrition. Now, one University of Missouri-Columbia researcher has joined an international consortium in an effort to improve the nutritional value of one of the staples of the African diet, sorghum, as one way to combat this problem.

Brewing up a conversation

Beverly Meyer, who joined Bookmark Cafe's cast in October, tries to cheer up the corner of Ellis Library basement by initiating conversations with customers. Meyer said meeting a lot of interesting people, especially international students, is the best thing about working at Bookmark.

American LIFE program seeks community members

American LIFE is a flexible program to help Columbia and Mid-Missouri residents get to know and make friends with MU international students. International students come to the University of Missouri with the common goal of pursuing an education. Beyond that, every student is unique. Imagine the overwhelming feeling that living in a foreign country can evoke.

Finding refuge, seeking a home

Fatima Selimovic, a Bosnian refugee who has lived in Columbia for three years, is the subject of a new documentary, "Neither Here nor There," which chronicles the struggles of Fatima and her family as Bosnian refugees living in Columbia. Fatima immigrated to Columbia in 2002 with her son Adnan and her two daughters.

New International Student Orientation

The International Center will hold their Fall 2005 New International Student Orientation. The orientation gives new international students essential information regarding their stay at MU. The session will begin at 8:00 am, Monday, August 15 at the International Center, N52 Memorial Union. If you are unable to attend orientation due to visa delays, please contact the MU International Center and plan to attend the make-up session on August 29, from 1-4 p.m.

The Asian Affairs Center and the Department of Educational, School and Counseling Psychology will be hosting 14 graduate students from Taiwan's National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) for 10 days as part of a cultural immersion program.
