Students bring 'Faces of Iraq' to MU
Instantly transporting students across political and geographic borders with the click of a button, the sound of a foreign drum beat, or the sight of an exotic dancer; International Education Week aimed to bridge barriers of distance and time by hosting an array of international themed events this Nov. 14-19. Coordinated through the International Center, the weeklong agenda of events, workshops, and exhibitions showcased among other things the critically acclaimed photo exhibit, "Faces of Iraq."

Fulbright Scholar plans to travel to Ireland
From teaching at Mizzou to developing a strategic plan for educational growth in Ireland at the National College of Ireland, one MU professor will soon be making plans for transatlantic travel after being chosen as one of 800 outstanding faculty to participate in the Fulbright Scholar Program.

New website aids people with disabilities
Teaming up to launch the "disAbility Spin" site, MU researchers and Columbia citizens have unveiled a new online resource for people living with disabilities. Posting news updates, resource links, discussion groups, and even volunteer opportunities, "disAbility Spin" is the latest communication tool helping people with disabilities live skillfully and successfully.

Dance company delivers for Korean Week
Gliding across the stage dressed in traditional Korean dress, the internationally acclaimed dance troop, the Cho Heung Dong Dance Company, delivered a mesmerizing performance at Jesse Auditorium. The performance concluded Korean Week, a weeklong program held in cooperation between the Asian Affairs Center and The Korean Society.

US-Canadian relations discussed at MU
While President George W. Bush began a state visit to Ottawa, Canadian Navy Rear Adm. Ian Mack stopped by the Eurpean Union to discuss the future of US-Canadian partnership in the 21st century.

International student pop. remains strong
While the number of international students across the country has declined significantly since 9/11, MU numbers have remained stable. The Asian economic crisis of the 1990s also presented a challenge for matriculating students. International Center Director James McCartney explains how MU is meeting the challenge.

Governor's Commission on Hispanic Affairs
As Missouri's Hispanic population skyrockets, the recently established Governor's Commission on Hispanic Affairs faces many issues. To meet the challenge of making effective policy recommendations to the Missouri House and Senate, the commission plans to pool information resources from across the state. At its November hearing in Jefferson City, the commission identified IPFD's latest division office, the Cambio Center, as a potential resource.

Announcements
Congratulations! Dr. T.R. Marrero, MU Professor of Chemical Engineering, recently received double honors from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, AIChE. Dr. Marrero was elected as one of only 845 fellows in the organization's 96-year history. Present membership currently stands at approx. 46,000. Dr. Marrero was also presented with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the AIChE Minority Affairs Committee for outstanding service.
